Hi all,

Can anyone guide me on the amount on which service tax is payable. IS it payable only on the rent or does it also include security deposit.

Hi..

Service tax is not payable on the Security Deposit amount and is payable only on the rent. I guess its 12.36%.

Ideally Service Tax is required to borne by the Landlord / Owner but is usually passed on to the tenant / retailer. Infact this is another hidden side to commercial retail leasing. Normally when the rent figures are quoted to a brand, the service tax clause is not disclosed and sometimes come as an absolute shocker to the prospective tenant.

Its a pity that a reputed firm like Price Water House has to resort this sort of advt./spamming to market itself.
