I was wondering what are the prevailing commissions being charged by real estate agents across the country?

The commission charged for property sale purchase is 1% from Buyer and seller each; For rental properties the commission demanded is 1 month, which can be brought down to 15 days by skilfull negotiation.

Similarly sale/purchase commission can be negotiated down to 0.5%.
