Default Better security solutions not susceptible to human errors is the need of the hour

Whether you live in a standalone house or a highrise building in any of the large cities, one remains very much vulnerable to robbery and assault within a home.

Security in India has traditionally meant installing a safety door or hiring a watchman for the home or the building. However, these are no match for the increasingly sophisticated tools and techniques that criminals adopt nowadays.

The proliferation of nuclear families and a general rise in income levels in urban areas in our country have meant that there is an increased need for equipping homes with adequate security systems to ensure the safety of one's family and valuables. Consumer research has shown that there is a definite need to migrate to better security solutions that are electronically controlled and are not susceptible to human errors. Now, what are the basic requirements of a home security setup?

The three main electronic security systems needed in a residential set-up include access control such as door controllers and readers, intrusion detection such as burglar and fire alarms and video surveillance systems that comprise advanced CCTV systems and video door phones. If each of these systems is purchased separately , administration and training can burden a property owner or a developer.

Intrusion alarms occur on one system, access badges are administered in another standalone database, and intelligent digital video technology runs on separate dedicated computer equipment. Each system requires service, maintenance, administration, and training. Many building developers, recognising this need, have now started bundling state-ofthe-art integrated security solutions as part of their automated set-up in many residential projects.

Integrating separate security elements through Building Automation System (BAS) is cost-effective , inconspicuous enough to blend with the decor and yet equip the home with a powerful security system. By integrating these separate security systems under a flexible BAS, building owners realise a lower upfront investment for a considerably more powerful security solution .

Installation and training occur on a single system, and operational costs like administration and maintenance are also reduced. The video surveillance , in particular , has evolved considerably over the last few years. The advanced CCTV systems can transmit video feed real time over IP networks to devices such as smartphones, tablets, etc.
