Default Golden Mile back in Legal Mess. 430 Crores of Bidder's Money remains unpaid by Govt.

The legal tussle over Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority’s Golden Mile project in Kokapet has deepened with the private claimants of the land filing a fresh case in the Supreme Court. A few bidders have also approached the High Court seeking refund of the money. Some other bidders have revived their demand for government’s indemnity to the amount they paid so far and the future instalments. About Rs 430 crore has been stuck in the legal battle for the past two years.

Official sources said that a meeting was held by the finance minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, on Tuesday to explore various possibilities of expediting the legal battle. The HMDA officials informed the minister of a legal dispute at the apex court following a special leave petition filed by the claimant, Mr K.S.B. Ali.

"We will obtain the contents of the petition in the apex court and prepare the counter," said the HMDA commissioner, Mr K.S. Jawahar Reddy. On the bidders reviving the demand for indemnity, he said the plea was under the government’s consideration. Companies such as DLF and Prestige had been lobbying with the government for indemnity which the finance department had rejected earlier.

Meanwhile, the city-based Kailash Ganga Constructions, which quoted the highest bid amount of Rs 14.45 crore, filed a fresh petition in the HC seeking direction to the government to refund the money. The company faulted the HMDA for sending notices for balance payments though it had failed to clear the legal hurdles and develop any infrastructure.
