As u all are aware about talks of cremation grounds near various Group Housing Society in Noida. I want to focus your attention on Historical background of Noida. The Noida which we see as today is inhabited by around 70 - 80 Villages in past & comes under Ghaziabd Distt of U.P
Most of the land in Noida is not very fertile & the agricultural ouput is very low. Its come under flood area of river Yamuna by one side & hindon on other side. If you travel on Noida Expressway, u can clearly see many villages from Start of Mahamaya flyover to Greater Noida on both sides. Till 20 -30 yrs back these villages get flooded every 2-3 yrs & people temporally shift as far to Mehrauli in Delhi & other interior areas of Noida. The Gujjars & Yadavs which form major chunk of Noida Village Population are nomadic tribes & traditionally cow herders in past. Before Partition of India many villages of Noida have huge Muslim population & most of population moved after 1947 . Even now 40% of Noida Villages have Muslim name. (Sarfadad, Jahibad, Rohillapur, Haidarpur, Hajipur ) Many Sufi baba have there Dargahs in Noida . Atta Peer Baba is one such example. So you can very well imagine there are many more kabirstaan around 50yrs back & if you are aware about History of Delhi, its is conquered may times by successive wave of intruders from Northwest of India. In 1857 & past many small battles are fought in Noida & East Delhi Area. The Jungles, ravines & barren land across river Yamuna is safe heavens for Dacoits, fugitives, defeated armies & thief’s You can clearly see there is no fixed pattern of habitation in Noida & you can never sure about the which place is used for what purpose in Noida in past. So in my view all the talks about kabristaan & cremation ground near Group housing should not be a very big factor while purchasing House in particular society & sector. Rajeev, I am not sure I get the point here.
Your are saying that there were a lots creamation grounds in Noida at one point and just a few are left now. Some of the cremation ground land may be is under some sort of use while other is not? So essentailly ignore the Cremation ground and buy a house coz the land on which the house is being built may also been a cremation ground 50-100yrs back? Or who knows, a bloody battle may have been fought on it. So simply ignore it.....hmm , I am not sure if that is a valid argument at least not for me. Based on your explanation Noida looks more like an archaelogical site like Mohan jo Daro or Harrapa rather than the city it is today. In good humour, wonder what would Greater Noida have looked like? No wonder no airport in Jewar who knows what is beneath that land...... Quote:

I made a simple point that 90% of Noida's land is barren & don't have any continuous habitation pattern. So you cant be sure about particular land use in past.
As for History thing there is a War Memorial inside the Golf Course, that commemorates the 1803 Battle of Patpargunj for the control of Delhi. Humayun's Tomb,Red For, Purana Quila & other Historic sites are not very far from. Its just across river Yamuna. Last edited by rajeev rana; 25-02-10 at 09:47 AM. |

Well barren land and cremation ground are 2 different things. Secondly trust me no one cares about the past land use.
Yes, it is possible that some of the land where people now live may have been a cremation ground years back but if no one knows abt it no one cares abt it too. But if you know that a building is being made on a past cremation ground or if you can see a cremation ground from a building then that does make a difference as compared to past unknown use of the land. Your post implies that since we dont know abt the past land use we shouldn't worry abt the current use of land around homes too. I am sorry to say but I do not agree with that at all. People buy houses based on location and the future proposed usage of the land around their house not the past unknown usage of land. As far as history is concerned, well mahabharat was fought in kurukshetra and there were 3 huge battles fought in panipat. inspite of that I am pretty sure people is those cities also don't want a house next to a cremation ground even though their current house may be on the battleground field of the past. That's why people say ignorance is bliss - no one knows for sure how many cremation grounds were there or where they were. If a kabristaan is not currently in use why should one be bothered by it just because it's near your project!
