This is a good point, and let's not forget that for U.S. NRI's United States equity markets have already proven to be a be a better investment with less risk over the last three months than property in India over the last year (and far more liquid). All in all NRI's seem like they are probably less interested in the market on account of the headaches. regardless, India's growth cannot be denied.

Very true in case of that segment of NRI population who normally used to invest in Indian real estate. I agree with Ruchika.

Dear skayling,

Your point about US equity investments being more liquid is certainly ture (for that matter any investment in stock markets is more liquid compared to real estate investment).

But your point about equity markets giving higher ROI than real estate investments in India is not necessarily true on all accounts. Real estate has always been a long term investment and hence comparing returns over less than 12 months and coming to a conclusion is not the right way to evaluate real estate investments.

When you look at a long duration of investment (say 2 to 5 years), real estate in India has always delivered higher average returns than any stock/equity market (even in India).

It all matters on the right property, in the right location and at the right price. There is no right time to invest or liquidate property investments as just like in stock markets, you cannot and must not time the market.

Hence i would suggest that real estate investments in India are the best way to create wealth for your family PROVIDED you invest after thorough research - which is unfortunately the root cause of all painful experiences in real estate investment.

If you get the research right, investment in Indian real estate is unbeatable in the long run.

Cheers.

Your point being..? NRI's were always in demand in certain segment of society... in 90's ..2000's..that segment now values which one drives a BMW/ stay in "posh" south delhi society/ in-crowd.../bar hopping/ clubbing./
rest of india never cared for that segment neither before nor now.

What the hell is a so-called NRI? I agree with some of what you may have said but the tone in your post reflects a sense of jealousy, envy or some prior adverse personal experience with a "so-called NRI".

I have this basic question to you Ruchika. Have you been an NRI yourself to proclaim that an average indian investor is "far" richer than an NRI?

Can I also request you to quote some examples to back your statements please, for the enlightenment of all.

If you ask me, I have been in both boats, being an NRI and being a normal Indian salary earner. NRI's in US, UK, middle-east, Australia and Canada etc still earn and save FAR FAR better in terms of normal savings as compared to a counterpart in India. The only reason that NRI's come back is emotional hiccoughs faced missing their rich culture and feeling alone.

Ofcourse I'm only talking about the salaried class.

Thanks.
