This news is a desktop publishing.

There are two types of NRIs

1. Having tons of money and who are capable of buying few houses. They are least bothered about a little rate change here and there.

2. The second group of NRIs, basically those onsite IT professionals ... come on, they do not have enough money ready to convert and buy a house. How much do you think a normal NRI guys keeps liquid in his/her saving account overseas. Most of these people send money regularly for better FD, etc return.

The total amount looks bigger now as many people are remitting now to avail the better rate ... but individually no one is sending that much money that can buy a house.

In the last few years, I have noticed a definite change in the NRI moneyorder economy...

A lot of folks, specially who are on long term assigments, so prefer to keep $$ liquid in their overseas account than sending them to India from time to time. The aim to invest in RE overseas aided by lower prices and weak interest rates....

The way they see it, it makes sense for them to invest for a steady rental income for retirement in a mature/stable economy...
