Dear All,
I am looking to move to Pune from Mumbai in 2 years time. We are currently considering all the different localities in Pune and are trying to filter out the best area to live. Main criteria for zeroing on an area will be : 1) A Cosmopolitan and a decent area. 2) Should be within 15 min reach to one of the best schools (I have a son, so school needs to be Co-Ed or Boys only) 3) Posh sorroundings 4) Easy access to local amenities like Market, Malls, Restaurants, Cinemas, etc. 5) Close to IT companies (yes, I am an IT guy )6) PSF rate should be max INR 5000/-. Requesting all of the core Puneri forum members to share their thoughts. Thanks in anticipation. Northstar. |

List of 'best'schools in Pune are as follows:
ICSE :St Mary's, camp and Bishop's camp. Fees 12-15k a year, no donation req. Entrance test + parent's interview. There are good nursery schools who can help you with test preparation for grade 1. CBSE board: DPS(Kondhwa), DAV(Aundh)fees is 3-5 k per month + 55-75 k upfront deposit/donation. State board: Abhinav Vidyalaya(Deccan) and Symbiosis Intl school. Both are good. Fees should be less than what is mentioned above. International School: Mercedes Benz School, state of the art stuff, mainly foreign crowd. Fees is > 5L per year. I have two nephews 8(g) and 6(b)both are in st. Mary's. The school has a very traditional style of teaching and very academically focussed. The crowd here is mainly professional and lot of NRI's returning back. There are a lot of new schools coming with the US Kind of facilities but the credibility is yet to be built |

I would vouch for St Mary's for sure and then there is Bishops as well which is an only Boys school in camp and then there are branches in Kalyani Nagar and Undri which are co-eds. The most cosmopolitan area in Pune according to me is without doubt Wanowrie. It has all that you are looking for. Malls nearby, Multiplex, Schools (all the schools mentioned are in the radius of 5 KM). Magarpatta and Kharadi are also close by. Magarpatta is about 6 kms and add 2 more for Kharadi. Happy exploring

Friends,
Today I have heard that on weekend gone by, hundreds of people were in line for almost 12-20 hours (from 3-4 PM Friday to 10 AM Saturday) for admission of their kids in Blue Ridge school I’m shocked and appalled as one my friend was the victim of this weird practice..apparently most of the people went back without even getting the forms...even those who got the forms have to further go through the selection rounds I have few questions 1. Why does any school distribute forms physically...some of the good schools in Pune give the option of download it from website ( in case of Blue Ridge...I guess it was either poor management or an effort to create hype) 2. Why parents try to go for the costly schools as if cost is synonymous to quality In fact...having grown in a tier-2 city myself...I don’t want my kid to only interact with nova riches or elites of Metro...I am seriously considering to enroll my daughter in a gov school...I’m confident that I can still manage her upbringing well...only issue will be my wife's reaction I believe, in general a person doesn’t compromise on education, home, and medical needs...its human to stretch oneself in these three spheres... Schools, builders and hospitals systematically exploit this weakness of ours...expecting GOI to do anything on this is too much but not sure what is the solution :-( |
