What happend to Sky Bus?

By the way, does it mean digging roads in rainy season; underground electricity, water, tele lines; reduction of space on roads?

Good to see the progress.
There are two proposed route for phase I.

Pimpri-Chinchwad -- Tukaramnager -- Bhosari -- Kasarwadi -- Phugewadi -- Dapodi -- Bopodi -- Khadki -- Rangehills -- Shivajinagar -- PMC -- Budhwar Peth -- Mandai -- Swargate

Vanaz -- Anandnagar -- Ideal Colony -- Nal Stop -- Garware College - Deccan -- HighCourt -- Mangalwar Peth -- Pune Station -- Ruby -- BundGarden -- Yerawada -- KalyaniNagar -- Ramwadi

There was some mention of Chinchwad-Nigdi section as well. Total 31 km of route. Cost eatimate between 6K to 7K crore. More delays mean more cost.

Wonder where will two route cross each other as that is going to be a major changeover point and things need to be planned properly at this junction as people have to change from one route to other route. If they put some extra planning and make a common station on the route , that will add a great value to commuter experience. I am talking about how Singapore Metro stations liek City Hall are planned where two lines are arranged in upper story and lower story. You have to just ascend/descend a elevator to change line. Hope they won't make it like Tokyo metro where you have to walk a considerable distance to change form one metro line to other at most places.

Also Pimpri-Chinchwad is a vague term. Exactly where are they planning it is not clear. Other location mentioned give accurate location.

In later stages there is plan from some ASI (not sure where or what is this) to Hinjewadi and one more is Swargate to Katraj.

First of all, let me inform that the Chakan airport has been scrapped & plans are now for Saswad.

In metro, there is a tussle between Pawar & Kallu. Pawar wants the PCMC route to be completed first as NCP is in power in PCMC while Kallu wants the route from Vanaz to Yerwada to be completed first. (There has to be special route, from PMC & PCMC office to Yerwada mental hospital, even BRT will be fine).

Land aquisition has not even started & agriculture ground which was planned for metro station is in prob as many people have raised objection to it.

Do I sound pessimistic? Well, it's more reaslistic. Eg. The bridge near Vadgaon, Sinhagad rd. for NH4 bypass, took almost 18 years.

ASI = Archeological Survey Of India.
Btw, let alone Singapore or Tokyo facilities, be grateful even if public doesn't spit paan & gutkha in metro & on the station.

Btw, any updates about road from Warje to Kharadi alongside the mutha river?

So bhumipujan will happen in 2010, First metro will run in 2050, All metros will run by 2250, Pune, one more reason to increase RE price now as Pune will have metro now...

I'm a big pessimist when it comes to any infra project in Maharashtra. Not only do these projects never get completed on time, but they become the bane of our existence.

The traffic jams, dug-up roads, and numerous other irritants only add to the common man's preexisting miseries. No point building a bridge, when an entire generation of people are going to suffer watching it getting built.

People say there are no quick fixes to infrastructure problems in India. I think there is one, just don't build it.

I'm against this metro. And I guarantee you that this project won't get built or completed in the next 20-years.

Some thoughts coming up.

If the project shows a good momentum in next 6 months, the prices in this corridor are surely going to increase and for good reason. Life is gonna improve for following cases (talking in perpective of IT persons)

For Vanaz-Ramvadi route
1) Stay in Kothrud/SihngadRd , work in Kalyani nagar/Magarpatta/Kharadi
2) Stay in Kharadi/Magarpatta/K'nagar, work in Senapati Bapat Road

For Chinchwad-Swargate route
1) Stay in Pradhikaran/Chinchad/Pimpri , work in K'nagar/Magarpatta
2) Stay in Pradhikaran/Chinchad/Pimpri , work in Senapati Bapat Road

People living around M'patta/K'nagar but working in Hinjewadi will have to wait for phase II to see benefit.

If both phases are delivered in next 10 years as, Megapolis has started looking attractive (assuming the line is upto phase III) so has wakad area.

This should improve the air quality in Pune a lot as Metro expect to carry 8 to 10 lakh people in a day . If we reduce consumption of even 1 litre of gas on an average per person, it amounts to a big value.

Only issue I am seeing that more people will flood Pune (as Mumbai) so net effects may be the improvement happening not as big as original projection.

Also interesting is that such project may throw off totally unrealistic projects like Ravet etc out of window as metro corridor will be preferred choice of stay. Interstign to see the overall impact on property rates in various locations in Pune.

Please don't bet on Metro being completed soon. And more so on the route. These are just some gimmicks played by the politicians.

Why this Metro issue suddenly popped up and got approved unanimously without even a plan? If there is a plan, why is it not public?

I am not sure about this. But in India every Plan needs to be approved by a lot of entities. So is the Metro plan approved by everyone that needs to approve it.

You never know many more approvals might be needed like Center, State, Environment group, Gareeb Group, Ameer Group, PMC, Maharasthra Board of Development, Maharasthra Board of objection to Development, Western India Committee of Development, Western Indian committee for development of Minority groups, Maharashtra forum for development of Majority group rights, Gay Forums, Women rights Cell, Safety regulations of India, Electricity Boards, Scorpio Owners, Human rights violation bodies, who knows maybe they might even want me to approve it… Veeemkay special committee for urban development.:p

It is a gimmick played by builders lobby to attract people to Pune and invest in RE projects here.
