The real reason is slightly technical - when you joined IREF, you searched something in Google and landed on the site. Google, mind you, is an English language search engine - it cannot read or understand or index pages in Hindi. Since IREF gets a lot of traffic from Google searches, it is necessary for IREF to be English only - so that more of its content gets indexed on Google and more people come to this site and become contributing members.

Compare apples with apples, when you can. Why search a saas bahu serial when you can do this comparison - "Main Noida me ghar dhund raha hoon" vs. "I am looking for a house in Noida".

Well guys, let me chime in here.

When members join IREF if it obvious and clear we are an English forum. Everything on this site that IS the site and not a post, is English. Every post admin make are in English. The rules members agree to are in English, and those very rules spell out that this is an "English Only" forum.

There are probably a number of reasons while this rule is in place, and it has been in place since before I came on board - but I will say a couple things.

Yes, for one of us (me) English is much easier to read through. So in my case it is needed for me to be effective in ensuring posts meet standards and rules and to filter out junk and spam. If we quickly ensure posts are to standard, the quality of our service drops.

Outside of that, though, I think it's important that everyone be able to understand everything. Everyone here understands English, but not otherwise. For various reasons, that point should be held. Have you ever been in a room talking with people, then suddenly two people next to you start to whisper in another language?

It's a fair enough rule to have in place, it's justified well enough, and is clear from the beginning (on signup) that this is how we operate. So, I see no harm in enforcing it. Though, as IGRM has said, no one to date has been punished for it.
