Torrent Group is all set for a swanky and sprawling corporate address. Nearly two years after it kicked off the hunt for a new corporate address, Ahmedabadbased Torrent group has finally acquired around 1 lakh sq yd land near Science City to set up a sprawling corporate campus.

According to sources, the Rs 3,000 crore turnover power and pharmaceutical giant had to cough up nearly Rs 40 crore for the land which it acquired recently. While a company spokesperson declined to comment on the development, top Torrent officials confirmed the deal had indeed been clinched with plans afoot to develop a nearly 10 lakh sq ft corporate campus replete with swanky offices, landscaped gardens, water bodies, guest houses, training centre, restaurants, sports facilities and auditoriums.

Currently, the company operates out of cramped corporate offices off Ashram Road while its Torrent Research Centre is housed in a striking building made of turret like structures at a sprawling campus at Bhat on Ahmedabad’s outskirts.

“Our pharma operations alone are housed in three buildings at Ashram Road. With business growing rapidly, we needed a world class set-up under one roof,” the Torrent official said.

The Mehtas of Torrent have been scouting land in and around S G Road for quite some time to bring power, pharmaceuticals and cables businesses in one campus.

Interestingly, the state government had been trying to woo Torrent group into setting up its corporate offices at Gandhinagar, which the Gujarat government has been trying to develop a corporate hub.

While three years ago Torrent had turned down chief minister Narendra Modi’s pet project of building India’s tallest building in Gandhinagar, earlier in the year the group refused to be drawn into the Gujarat government’s ambitious 27-hectare corporate park project where it has already roped in nearly 14 top corporates like Reliance, Essar and L&T.
