MOHALI: By the end of the year, the non-existent nightlife and entertainment avenues in Mohali city are scheduled to have a new address with construction work in full swing at Mohali Junction, which would witness an integrated inter-state bus terminus (ISBT), 10-screen multiplex, food courts and entertainment complex. The junction is expected to become operational by December.

The ISBT project would no doubt ease the woes of travellers looking to board long-route as well as city buses as till now, as most of the buses do not regularly stop at the old bus stand in Phase VIII. Even the condition of existing bus stand is in a dilapidated condition and most travellers prefer to go to ISBT-17 or ISBT-43 in Chandigarh to board long-route buses to various destinations.

The entertainment project, touted as being the first in the region where a state-of-the-art, fully air-conditioned bus terminus would be combined with four-star hotel housing 150 rooms, rooftop helipad, three-storied fully automatic parking lot and shopping mall, is said to be the answer to Mohali residents quest for entertainment.

Hopeful that the first phase of the project would be completed by September; C&C general manager Col (retd) Charanveer Singh Sehgal said that his team of engineers and site managers along with labourers were working at break-neck pace to ensure meeting the deadline. He said, ''By September, we would have the bus terminus, multiplex, parking lot and shopping mall in place. After that the second phase would see 150-room hotel, office-cum-commercial tower and helipad on rooftop become reality by June 2012.''
The 10-screen multiplex, to be equipped by Cinepolis from Mexico, would screen 55 movies everyday. Cinepolis is the fourth largest chain in the world and the multiplex would be among the first in the country to have 10 fully functional screening areas.
