Farmers opposed to "excessive" land acquisition for the Ring Road around Jaipur, carried out their threat as they prevented the Jaipur Development Authority officials from starting the project on their land on Thursday.
As a face saver, the officials "launched" the project from the government land falling in the road perimeter. In JDA's Zone 14 near Ajaypura village in Sanganer tehsil, farmers chased away the officials from the 'acquired' agricultural land, preventing demarcation of road boundaries. In Achrawala village in the same tehsil, farmers removed the demarcation signs from their land set up by the JDA in the past.
"The JDA has started the work in Zone 11 near Madua village. However, work at one site in zone 14 near Ajaypura village was stopped because of protesting farmers," said an official. He added, "In the same area, the JDA has to demarcate 4-5 km area. However, it is not possible for officials to demarcate farmers' land unless the issue is resolved."
