earthquake rocked Delhi, NCR and Jaipur in North India at around 4.19 pm on Tuesday. The earthquake was also felt in Afghanistan, Pakistan and some other parts of Asia. The earthquake measuring 7.8 on Richter Scale had epicentre on Pakistan-Iran border.

Earlier in the day, a low intensity earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale was felt in parts of Odisha, an official said. No loss of life or damage to property was reported.

The earthquake occurred at 8.36 a.m. and was felt for a few seconds in Astaranga area of Puri district, 70 km from Bhubaneswar, an official of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre told IANS.

The epicentre of the quake was about 40 km from Bhubaneswar, he added.

Another earthquake had jolted the northeast earlier Tuesday at 6.53 a.m. The epicentre was in Assam's Darrang district.

Besides Meghalaya and Assam, tremors were also felt in Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.

There were no reports of casualty or damage to property.

  • And this going to have a huge impact on RE market... now some people will say it is very +ve news that none of the building in NCR fall and hence buyers will be attracted...
    other set of people shall say... this going to increase the -ve sentiment in buyers....

  • If there is an Richter 8-9 sustained earthquake in NCR (epicentre in and around NCR) - mostly ALL buildings will fold.

    Modern Day RCC buildings are light and flexible and if properly designed are much safer than most double storey buildings you may be staying at. Most high rises these days are designed for seismic stability within their region codes

    Yes - doubts can be raised on the intent of builder or the incompetence or the architect / civil engineer - nothing much can be done there

    Technically and statistically you are correct but most of people doesn't think so. I have seen this personally for many people. Perception.
