Delhiites will soon be able to avail of the sports facilities at the Commonwealth Games Village. Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has proposed to introduce `pay-andplay policy' for those wanting to use the sports complex that it plans to develop in the area.

According to DDA officials, the Village already has an athletic ground, a football field and a gym. The land agency is also planning to create more facilities in the coming months before this sports complex is thrown open to the public. ``A number of sports facilities have already been developed in the Village, and we are planning to demarcate space to create a cricket ground. We will also develop an indoor badminton court and will provide space for table tennis, aerobics, yoga, etc. We are not introducing any membership fees to start with. Those who want to use these facilities will have to pay a nominal amount of money,'' said an official.

DDA will carry out demarcation and fencing in the Village for which a plan will be worked out by its architecture department. Tenders will be floated for developing this project. ``It is likely to take four months before the complex can be used by Dellhiites. Since the complex will be completely air-conditioned, the rates for using the complex will be decided after taking into account the maintenance cost. People who want to avail of the facilities will have to pay on hourly basis,'' said an official. For instance, in Siri Fort Complex, non-members can gain entry into the club by paying Rs 40 and then pay more for every facility they use. The rates for availing of the facilities at the Village will be more as the complex is completely air-conditioned, added officials.

The badminton and squash stadiums at Siri Fort are already being used for hosting various tournaments. The World Badminton Championship will take place at Siri Fort from April to May.
