Gurgaon to have a second Metro line: Kamal Nath

    14 Dec 2011 (10:14 PM IST)
NEW DELHI: Gurgaon will have a second Metro line in coming years as the Urban Development Ministry and the Haryana Government are set to sign an MoU for the creation of a metro line from Sikandarpur Metro station to a proposed station on the National Highway 8 in Delhi.

"We are signing an MoU with the Haryana Government to start another Metro line from Gurgaon to Dwarka side," Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath said today.

"Phase III of the Metro has started and this would be very important in providing important infrastructure to people. More and more people are getting used to Metro now," Nath said while speaking to reporters.

"Similarly, we are looking at expediting as much as we can Phase IV," Nath further said.

Officials said that the MoU would be signed by the representatives of the Urban Development ministry and the Haryana Government on Thursday evening at Nirman Bhawan here.

Apart from Urban Development minister Kamal Nath, the Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is also expected to be present at the time of the signing of the MoU.

While giving these details Kamal Nath said that as Metro changes the map of the city, he had also directed the DDA to do the same.

Nath said he had directed to focus on constructing one lakh houses for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). The DDA is constructing 30,000 such houses and another 30,000 are in the offing.

Nath also said as there were several agencies in Delhi, implementation of projects was a difficult task and a mechanism was being created so that a single authority can approve development projects.

      Hi
      Greetings

Problem is with funds. $1trln required for all around transport and infra development wont come that easy given poor liquidity in supplier countries. Europe and US are currently scourging for money with eyes set on China and the mighty Japanese economy with great technology is devastated after the twin earthquake and tsunami attacks..
Regional perception of large financier and equipment supplier also is not positive given the current count of ruling govt in the parliament and recent situation in Pakistan polity and tipsy relations with US after Nato and Drone attacks.

Ph4 Metro is pretty ambitious and fast track trains between delhi and satellite towns is still a dream lest govt shores up its dwindling forex reserves sunk due to slippery Re and rising fuel burden.

650kms stretch "fast track conversion" between london and glasgow costed £8bn (65,000Cr appx.) about 20 years ago. Relying on "FRENCH PENDOLINO tilting" trains, however did save British PM Thatcher from "tipping" for some time!!!

Like I said our Honble Minister for Urban Affairs Mr Kamal nath is probably the most promising of leaders left with Congress.. (has the highest declared net worth

      Cheers

MoU Signed for Metro Link from Delhi’s Sikanderpur Station to NH-8 in Gurgaon

A Memorandum of Understanding for development of Metro Link from Delhi Metro’s Sikanderpur Station to NH-8 in Gurgaon was signed today by the authorized representatives of Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, Government of Haryana and Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited in the presence of Minister of Urban Development, Government of India Shri Kamal Nath and Chief Minister of Haryana Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

M/s Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon with the approval of Government of India and Government of Haryana has undertaken the metro rail link of 5 km at a cost of Rs. 1088 crore from Delhi Metro’s Sikanderpur Metro Station to NH-8 ( Cyber City ) in Gurgaon. The designed capacity is for 2 lakh passengers a day. Commercial operation is scheduled from March 2013.

This is the first private initiative in India. Metro Railway is a Central subject under the Acts. For the first time, State Government is being authorized through a MoU mechanism to enter into a concession agreement with a private party with oversight mechanism, safety and standardization kept with the Central Government. This initiative is thus an unique model on the lines of authorizing State Govts to enter into concession agreement for National Highways by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).The concession agreement with the private party is for a lease period of 99 years. In the event of failure of the private party to commission or operate the system in future, the project would be taken over by the DMRC for implementation.

India is urbanizing rapidly. The urban population has increased from 285 million in 2001 to 400 million in 2011. India’s young age profile makes Indians ‘more ’, thereby adding further momentum to urbanization. To achieve the vision of creation of economically vibrant, inclusive, efficient and sustainable urban habitats, provision of safe, quick, reliable, comfortable, affordable and environment friendly urban public transport is of paramount importance. Among the various modes of public transport, Metro Rail is being given high priority by the Government of India.
