Relief at last, farmers end agitation in Noida

Noida: In a big relief to flat buyers in Noida, the Kisan Sansh Samiti on Saturday decided to suspend its agitation against land acquisition for three months.

The development came after representatives of farmers from 54 villages in the area held talks with officials of the Noida Authority on contentious issues that had cast a shadow on construction work undertaken by private builders in the satellite township.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Noida Authority chairman and CEO Balvinder Kumar said an agreement has been reached between the authority and the agitating farmers.

As per the settlement reached, Kumar said the farmers will be given five percent developed land of the total acquired. In addition, the existing inhabited land would be regularised as demanded by villagers, Kumar added.

He, however, said no discussion on enhanced compensation took place during the meeting. A decision on this issue would be taken at a later date, the CEO added.

Further, the Noida Authority would undertake the documentation of land across all villages of Noida which will be completed in three month’s time.

He, along with farmers, also declared that construction work can now go ahead in full-swing.

Today’s meeting came in the wake of Allahabad High Court’s move to give time till August 12 to the Uttar Pradesh government and protesting farmers to resolve differences on land acquisition out-of-court.

A larger bench of the High Court is due to hear the cases related to land acquisition in Noida and Greater Noida (Noida Extension) on August 17.

Following agitations in Greater Noida by farmers for enhanced compensation, hundreds of farmers in Noida too had started agitating for increased compensation and rehabilitation benefits for their land acquired.

The petitioners in Allahabad HC have alleged that their land was acquired by invoking the urgency clause for the development of Greater Noida area, which deprived them of an opportunity to raise objections as well as bargain for adequate compensation.

Besides, they have alleged, exemption from acquisition was granted to "some influential land-owners in a discriminatory fashion".

The impasse had put flat buyers in a spot as they were having to shell out EMIs but had no assurance of getting the property.

I think, Its a good news if you have your investment and it was actually just impossible to resolve the problem in one shot.

Anyhow things will be settle for sure. Genuine demand by farmers should be full fill and this time BMW wont take any chance as Elections are scheduled.

  • Noida Extension row: Farmers-Authority agree for out-of-court settlement

In a major relief for buyers and builders, the farmers and Greater Noida Development Authority reached on a consensus over the land acquisition dispute on Saturday.

The farmers and Greater Noida Development Authority (GNDA) will sort out the matter within three months, sources said.

Following the Allahabad High Court's direction that authority and farmers to reach the out-of-court settlement before August 12, Farmers and Authority reached on a consensus over hike in compensation and other issues.

Earlier, all petitions challenging land acquisition by UP government in Noida and Greater Noida areas were on Tuesday referred to the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court by a division with the request that a larger bench be constituted to decide the matter even as farmers were given an option to reach an out-of-court settlement by August 12.

Soon after the High Court’s order, builders and GNDA started consultation with the farmers for out-of-court settlements.

  • Noida farmers issues are completely different from NE. It is good that Authority is addressing the issue of allotment of 5% abadi plots and regularization human settlement areas which were main demands.

It is hoped that better sense will prevail within this 3 month cooling-off period and uncertainties about project construction will go away.

It is quite likely that BMW may ask Authority to give some extra compensation, some development works in villages etc. to settle the issue once for all......

  • At last some good news.

It is very clear that Noida farmers do not have strong case like NE.
They are looking for their rightful 5% land and hoping to get something extra in view of the fact that Authority is under pressure from courts as well as builders/buyers to settle the issue.

  • Yes true Manu ked..
Authority should definitely look into genuine demands of farmers...

  • such a confused article

The settlement relates to Noida for which there is no court case so far. The farmers are demanding what was promised to them at the time of acquisition and NA has rightly agreed to fulfill the same.

The reporter either out of his dumbness or sensationalism or pure ignore is mixing with NE issue which is in HC and where the out of court settlement deadline is 12 August. So for GNIDA has not made a headway with NE farmers.

When so many nervous stakeholders are at stake, such irresponsible reporting is highly deplorable.

  • The very fact that the issue has been resolved even if it is a temporary solution for now verifies that the problems of noida and noida extension are entirely different. Noida land and developments were never in question it was only a matter of extra compensation and 5% abadi land , and the latter had been promised earlier also. It was only that it was not executed. Relief for buyers at last.....hope the same happens in NE too.:)

  • Noida farmers suspend agitation for 3 months

NOIDA: Farmers in Noida today agreed to suspend their agitation against land acquisition for three months after claiming that authorities have accepted their demands, including giving them developed plot.

After talks with Noida authorities, the farmers, on their part, assured that building development activities would not be stopped, said Noida Chairman and CEO Balwinder Kumar.

Emerging from a 2-hour meeting with the Noida Chairman and UP Minister Jaiveer Singh at UP Irrigation Guest house at Okhla, Mahesh Awana, spokesperson of Kisan Sansh Samiti, announced suspension of the agition for three months.

"The authorities agreed to our demands including abadi land and developed plots. The authorities agreed to regularize the abadi land (where farmers establish their settlements) as they exist today in villages. They also promised to give developed plots to 15 villages by August 30", he said

For the remaining villages, the authorities sought three months' time said Awana.

The initiative for today's meeting between the farmers and the Noida authorities was taken by Gautam Budha Nagar MP Surinder Singh Nagar. He had sent invitation to farmers.

The Farmers assembled at Indira Gandhi Kala Kendra from where their representatives were taken to Okhla for discussion.

"Development activity will not affected by Noida as an agreement has been reached with the farmers", said Balwinder Kumar.

Minimum allotment rate is 20-45K/sqm in Noida... Farmers have lots of mony to buy 450 meter plot (approx 90-1.8 crores)...
