  • Wish Town residents flag security loopholes TNN | Sep 24, 2018, 07:20 IST

Noida: Residents of Jaypee Klassic and Kosmos apartments have flagged several security concerns in their housing societies and sought a meeting with the management, citing two recent incidents that raised questions about the safety of kids in the compounds.

The residents referred to an alleged kidnap bid by two outsiders in Kosmos and an accident in which an eight-year-old boy running after a ball fell into the basement of Klassic through a broken lattice to voice their concerns. They alleged they had written to the management highlighting 10 complaints in August, but to no avail.

Despite repeated attempts, there was no official response from Jaypee, which is already facing insolvency proceedings over non-payment of debts to financial creditors and homebuyers. Sources in the company, however, said the complaints would be addressed sometime next week.

“Last month, a child was almost kidnapped from the Kosmos compound by two unknown people who tried to pull him into a car. The child was cycling in the area and it was an attempt to kidnap him. Weeks before this, a child running after a ball fell 25ft into the basement through a broken lattice,” said Pragya Pandey, a resident of Klassic. in Sector 134

“Apart from these, there are other concerns as well. For instance, there is no adequate CCTV coverage in our compound. People often complain about feeling unsafe after coming out of their homes in the evening. A car was also stolen from here. There is a huge gap in security and maintenance of the compound where so many residents are staying. Such is the sense of insecurity that we don’t let our children go out to play,” she added.

Some parents said they would rather have their kids watching TV at home than going into the play area. A group of residents from Klassic has sent a ten-point letter to the management, seeking a meeting with them.

The residents said the complaints centred around the need for cement mesh in windows to be replaced, and high tension cables hanging too low over the park area. The residents also complained about a water pump right in the middle of a park, raising the possibility of accidents, and lack of lightening conductors installed in each apartment. They pointed out that the basements also did not have ventilation.

Some of the other issues that the residents highlighted were the lack of a fire suppression system, the low height of walls at the entry-exit ramps, the sewage treatment plant not being fully functional, soil and waste lines not properly attached in the basement area and lack of training for guards manning the housing societies to deal with emergencies.

“We had written to the management in August and over the past one month, we have been pursuing them to give us some time to discuss our problems. The areas that are currently occupied need high security coverage. CCTV cameras need to be installed and scanned properly. Security at the gates should be enhanced. The play areas should be made child-friendly. The purpose of living in gated communities is that people should be able to live safely,” said Jagvir Yadav, a resident.

  • There has been many new developments.

The buyers are divided between Shri Chitra Ji (the original petitioner in supreme court ) and something called as 9a ( association of 9 associations).

Allegedly, 9a overshadowed Ms Chitras defence and hijacked the whole narrative from being a consumer to become an investor in NCLT.

Most of the homebuyers are against this as they dont see themselves as investors but as consumers/homebuyers.

Now, the war is out in open. Members are being barred in Facebook/Telegram who oppose 9A s direction.

Chitra has filed a review petition in SC, verdict on which is being awaited.

There have been strong rumours that the associations ahve been bought off by JP, who are keep to get a clean exit through NCLT.

Some dubious individuals have hijacked all mass communication channels to "recommend" voting.

There is no end in sight.

In the aftermath of the fall of eight-year-old Aarav Beniwal into the ventilator shaft, residents of Jaypee Wish Town Klassic are sceptical to use facilities at the society. It seems that the trust in the builder has taken a hit. They are leaving no stone unturned to locate the places within the society which are potential safety hazards.
The residents claimed that the place where the child fell is not the only place that is ill-maintained within the society. They want the problem areas to be fixed. But, of course, the builder's involvement is also required to make the place safer for children.

There are several cracks on the walls of the towers, the children's play area is dug out and there are open high-tension power wires.

The recent instances of building collapses in Delhi-NCR areas after the arrival of monsoon have also affected the psyche of people. The residents frequently complain about the sub-standard construction materials.

A resident of the Klassic Tower said that they want a structural audit by the government. "We should know the exact position of the society. We will soon write a letter to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and the district magistrate in this regard," the resident said.

High-tension wires were also spotted 10 meters above the ground. They were seen at the area where children play and residents jog. This place was not more than 10 steps away from the ventilation shaft where the boy fell. Residents had demanded underground wiring two years ago, but the builder has done nothing so far.

Another resident said that the electric poles, installed by the builder in the park area, are dangerous for children. "Children come to play here and if the wire falls on any of the child or person then who will be responsible for the casualty. The builder should address this as soon as possible," he said. Most of the area of the park is also dug out.
"I don't think fire sprinklers are operational here. Many of them are locked as well. We need to force the facility management group to do fire drill every month (not evacuation only but to test the whole system is working or not) and we will be a part of it," the resident said.
