I am looking for some sort of sliding security arrangement to be installed in-line with the sliding windows..
Definitely not the huge metal grills which makes the apartment look like a cage.
There are a few products out there.. just lots of footwork and exhibition visits etc required..
Its not something the regualar grill guy would make..

Cuz ya as of now the sliding windows with the flimsy clip on locks are not really a deterrent.

As for the main balcony .. someone had earlier suggested keeping cactus etc .. to prevent kids from going near.. :P
as of now seems like the best idea :)

  • THere are types of grills differing in thickness, 8mm/10mm/12mm etc (IIRC), and the prices increase with increasing thickness. If the grill is only for the safety of the house occupants from peering out, and not for thief getting in, you can get the grill in lowest thickness. I have done so, and it really is perfect for my purpose. It is thin, so cutting it will be easy, but persons from inside can't peer out of the window and risk falling out.

I suggest keep a horizontal design ====== and not vertical like |||||| Vertical design adds the feeling of being in a cage, however horizontal design gels with the balcony and doesn't look odd.

How old are your kids? There is absolutely no chance that kids under age 6 can climb those balconies without any help. Yes, if you keep a stool or chair in the balcony, a kid can climb and may fall over. So don't keep any chairs if you have un-supervised kids. But otherwise, it will be difficult for a kid to climb up the grill and fall.

Keeping cactus may harm your kid unnecessarily.

We have sliding nets in all windows, which will stop kids from leaning over. You do have the option of getting custom sliding doors and windows that have in-built grill. Sort of like a safety door that you would install at the entrance.

Totally kidding about the cactus :)

Will have to look into the custom sliding windows with in-built grill, guess any decently good interior designer will have ideas to install those without making it look bulky and killing the view ..

You are the first one in a long time to have bought at BR and also posted on the forum.

How many BHKs? What area of flat? What was the original asking price and what did you actually buy for (excluding other charges ... just base price of flat)?
