  • Rape the national disgrace

India has been reeling under a series of rapes.
Women are facing real problems in this state of affairs.
Lack of toilets, mental attitudes, law enforcement(??) is poor and conviction rate is abysmal
Delhi rape shook the nation,it was followed by a horrendous rape in Mumbai.
Laws have been strengthened but the cutting edge is provided by a sensitive and trained police force.
See the reaction of UP police in the recent saddest of sad case where two girls were found hung from a tree.

What is galling is the reaction of some of our politicians
I reproduce some remakrs as reported in the press:
Amid a nationwide outrage over rising incidents of rape and insensitive comments by political leaders, Chhattisgarh's home minister has come with his bizarre interpretation of a rapist's act claiming sexual assaults are not "deliberate".

"Balatkar jaisi ghatna ko koi janbujhkar nahi karta hai. Dhoke se sab karte hai (No one commits rape deliberately. It is committed by deceit)," state home minister Ram Sevak Paikra told media persons in Raipur on Saturday.
In January, 2013, then home minister Nanki Ram Kanwar had blamed the "inauspicious stars" for the high incidents of rape being reported from across the nation

Controversial remarks by a leader from MP and many leaders of ruling party in UP add to the sorry state of affairs.
    My view;
With this kind of justifications provided by law makers can women be safe?
Indian men need to question their chauvinistic attitudes and change.
Police need to wake up and treat rape victims with compassion and culprits with professional capability.
Our international image has taken a hit.

Latest National News from India, States, Cities.

As reports of rape and sexual assaults on women in India continue to make headlines in the British media as the Foreign Office advisory asks women travelling to India to exercise caution and one India travel expert concludes that ‘staring at women is an Indian pastime’.

After Narendra Modi’s election victory, India has mainly been in the news here for the Badaun rape and hangings, and for Madhya Pradesh home minister Babulal Gaur’s reported remark that ‘sometimes rape is right’.

The ONLY thing that's reported in western media about India for the last few years, is rape after rape after rape.

Its not painting a very good picture of India internationally and I'm sure its doing nothing for India's incredibly poorly performing tourism sector. India is portrayed as a corrupt and lawless country with serious problems it has no intentions of addressing.

In Singapore also i see people here are talking about the insecurity of females in India. I have seen few foreigners canceling their India tour because of this issue. The govt must take some serious steps to stop this.
