Re : Affordable housing: How can developers bring down costs?

Right, in the last couple of years there have been some innovation in the construction segment and the use of cost effective and quality materials has been on the rise, at least outside our country.

Procuring skilled labour also plays a crucial part in cost optimisation as well as the timely completion of a project as it ensures better productivity.

Thanks Malvish but I don't think that builders are that keen on hiring skilled labour. Also, the government too doesn't seem to be focusing on that part.

Many developers have recognised the importance of skilled labour and the government too has come up with an initiative called ‘STRIVE’ (Skill Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement), which has been funded by the World Bank. The initiative is being implemented for better productivity and hence cost optimisation.

Malvish Sounds good, though I haven't heard of the initiative ever Maybe they are working on a very low profile, on a one on one basis.

Extensive research? Well, it would be a great event if builders could only complete work in the traditional manner. The lot of them don't have the time or the urge to spend money on researching or innovating.

doorbell1 that can be considered the case but still, the change has started although a very small scale. Many reputed builders have been showing interest and creating job profiles to look into research and development in areas never thought of before. To be frank, research helps builders developing big projects that tend to take a lot of time and effort to complete.

Malvish I agree - big names with big projects could be researching and innovating but not the smaller ones and standalone ones.

Time management is also an important factor to be considered for cutting down costs as it helps to evaluate the timeline that ensures that the projects remains in the best interests of both the builder and the buyer. Delays in projects owing to the mismanagement of time can render the project an expensive affair owing to the obvious burden of cost overruns, increasing cost of materials and labour, interest payments just to name a few.
