Can anyone tell me What is the maximum penalty on maintenance charges a society can charge. I have a flat in sector 49, Noida, registered under UP cooperative societies act. Due to ambiguity in Society operations many residents stopped paying the maintenance amount. Now the president is asking 13 lakhs on behalf of dues of maintenance charges to us (due from April 2013). When we were paying him dues which he was settling against the interest which he did not disclosed to us nor there was any communication we received. Our society maintenance charge is Rs.350/- per month and the president is charging 10% interest every month on dues. Please advise.
