Location: West Mambalam, Chennai
Thanks to VenkyJ for suggesting a thread for locality.... West Mambalam is my favorite.... I will try to keep this thread as active I can... Looking forward to VenkyJ's KK Nagar & Ramapuram threads & similar threads for other localities...Last edited December 7 2016, 03:33 PM. -
What a wonderful place to live with ayodya Mandapam, t nagar, rail, bus, share autos, Ashok nagar, many temples, all malls theatres close by- on top do u believe u get rented house at 5000 for a 2 bhk in decent locality in Brindavan st - middle class paradise -
Paradise for pedestrians and two wheelers, nightmare for car owners.
Mambalam is also a transit for people going from mount road to Arcot road, Kodambakkam, Ashok Nagar, etc... So traffic is always an issue.
Places to avoid: Station road, lake view road, Kuppiah road, Brindavan road, Narrow lanes like Dandapani street, Arya Gowda road, Thambiah road and definitely all areas of Old Mambalam.
I guess I have covered pretty much all areas with exception of some relatively calm places like Giri street and other by lanesLeave a comment:

It is a very good place for cost conscious and normal living folks!!! Congested and is right in the middle of Chennai backbone (Train Track that divides CHennai) and nightmare for people love tranquility. But all places are not for all people!Leave a comment:

Though west mambalam is very near to T. Nagar, property prices and rental rates are not hyped much and pretty decent. We have a house there - W. Mambalam is a calm and quiet area, connected with other CBD areas well by bus and train.Leave a comment:

Superb area. A classic mix of middle class and the rich! A neat mix of traditional shops vs modern shops. A connection hub to main spots within city.
And wonderful temples. I love the area around Ayodhya mandapam, always electric activity and cheerful old people. Such a religious place.
Also lot of reputed doctors have their clinic here.
Personally, I feel a calm amidst the chaos of this area, unlike Velachery!
How can one forget the small eateries here, the most famous being Poli stalls.
Recently Navin's and Casa Grande have started 2 small projects here. Should be worth a fortune, but again worth the money!Leave a comment:

West mambalam is a decent area and good place for middle class and religious activities. However commuting from here to OMR or other parts of city is pain.
It all depends on where the work place is. All the broder roads in and around are encroched by illigal car parking which makes them as if 10 ft roads.Leave a comment:
